Fold-a-Phone Machine: Continuous Folding and Unfolding Around the Clock

The CNET team created a custom automated machine called Fold-a-Phone, which works non-stop to fold and unfold the iPhone Duo 24/7 for over a full week so far. The experiment was not limited to closed labs away from prying eyes; the progress of this test is broadcast daily in a live stream on YouTube to document how the phone’s mechanical components and internal screen handle this relentless, repeated pressure.
As the latest live stream session concluded, the iPhone Duo managed to surpass the 260,000 consecutive fold mark. As of this moment, the results indicate that the hinge and the screen’s bending area are holding up with remarkable efficiency and excellent performance, without recording any damage that would disrupt the device’s operation or affect its structure.
How long will this grueling test continue?

Despite surpassing this high number, those conducting the experiment do not intend to stop the automated machine at the moment; the site announced that the daily test will continue until at least November 20, with the aim of monitoring the behavior of the screen and hinge to see if any tangible changes occur over time with continued mechanical stress.
There is no doubt that these laboratory figures provide a clear and reassuring idea of the quality of the materials used in the iPhone Duo, even if daily life conditions include other factors such as dust and trouser pockets. Until the next rounds of the broadcast are completed, surviving more than a quarter of a million folds is a very positive sign that boosts confidence in the durability of Apple’s foldable hardware.
