The atmosphere at the Apple Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC 2026) keynote felt like a long household to-do list that had piled up for years, and your partner suddenly decided to complete it with pride! Instead of showcasing revolutionary and exciting features from outer space, Apple focused its efforts on fixing what it had previously broken; starting from adjusting the controversial ‘Liquid Glass’ design, to launching the magic solution for the degraded search problem in Photos and Email, and the long-awaited comprehensive upgrade to the personal assistant, Siri.

Live Demos vs. Empty Promises: The $250 Million Lesson
The most important details of the conference did not lie in the nature of the announced features, but in the way they were showcased. Many of the Apple Intelligence demos were presented by people standing with actual iPhones in their hands, pressing buttons and issuing voice commands in real-time, while another camera captured the live response of the phone. Although these demos were pre-recorded to avoid any unexpected errors on stage, they looked completely real and practical, unlike the visually enchanting WWDC 2024 demos which later turned out to be nothing more than promises on paper.

In 2024, Apple promised that AI features would soon reach users of the iPhone 15 Pro and newer devices equipped with M1 processors. But by March 2025, Apple had to admit that delivering these features was taking much longer than expected. As a result, the company faced a lawsuit in federal court for false advertising, threatening the reputation of a company founded on the principle of ‘devices that just work, without complexity.’ Just a month ago, Apple agreed to pay a massive $250 million financial settlement to close the case without admitting any wrongdoing.
Siri and AI: Has Apple Finally Caught Up?

The new presentation sent a clear message to users and investors: these features are now working on real devices and you will get them soon. To confirm this, Apple did not limit AI features to only the newest phones like the current iPhone 17, but they will be available via the new iOS 27 for iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max, and all iPhone 16 models and later. The features will also be available on iPad mini devices (with A17 Pro processor), iPad Pro devices with M1 processors or later, Macs, the Apple Vision Pro headset, and compatible Apple Watches.
The personal assistant Siri has finally received a dedicated standalone app that works similarly to popular chatbots like ChatGPT and Google’s Gemini, which manages operations behind the scenes. The new app allows for archiving previous conversations and referring back to them, and it also offers a multi-functional interface that enables the user to input text, upload documents and images, and speak directly with the assistant while maintaining full privacy thanks to secure cloud data processing via iCloud.

Craig Federighi, Apple’s Senior Vice President of Software Engineering, emphasized that privacy in AI is non-negotiable, as data is used only to execute requests without being stored or shared, which external experts can verify continuously and independently.
Amazing Features in iOS 27 and the Future of Systems

In addition to Siri, iOS 27 brought other smart features; including advanced tab management in the Safari browser, one-click password updates, and the ‘Write with Siri’ feature that allows you to draft messages and emails in your usual style of communicating with others. The Photos app also received revolutionary editing tools like ‘Reframe’ to adjust the photo capture angle using AI, the ‘Extend’ tool to expand photo backgrounds, and an updated ‘Cleanup’ tool to remove unwanted elements with complete professionalism.

The ‘Image Playground’ tool for generating images was also upgraded to become more realistic and useful, and the Shortcuts app received support for natural language programming to enable non-technical users to build complex workflows easily. For the first time, the Health app introduces features dedicated to tracking stages and periods of menopause and their health impacts.
The Broader Tech Landscape and Tim Cook’s Farewell
This conference comes at a time when the tech scene is witnessing fierce competition and massive investments in AI technologies; as Apple seeks to prove its practical leadership and avoid being accused of lagging behind competitors or making empty marketing promises. This realistic shift coincided with Tim Cook’s announcement of his desire to hand over the reins of leadership to John Ternus by September 1st, making this his final conference as CEO of the company.

In his moving farewell speech, Tim Cook said: “Over the years, you have helped people connect, learn, and explore the world in amazing ways. And with the massive capabilities we are launching today, I truly believe that the best is yet to come at Apple. It has been the honor of my life to help drive this human mission with an amazing team that has changed the lives of millions for the better.”
