IOS 13.4 may include a bug that consumes cellular data at an alarming rate, according to a report from Forbes. Where this problem first appeared last year with iOS 13. It is still present in beta versions and it is believed that it will still be present in the upcoming iOS 13.4 update on March 24th. What is the cause of this problem?

Some iOS users on various platforms are complaining about the unusual data drain by the "uninstalled apps" category in their cellular data settings. Where users noticed this ambiguous setting when viewing the applications and the amount of their data consumption, and the matter did not stop at this. Rather, some users received a warning from their telecom company about an unexpected increase in data, and we mean those companies that have “unlimited” contracts to bypass the fair use policy . Even the data usage sometimes reached one gigabit or more per day, "some see only a kilobyte or some megabyte".

The "Uninstalled Applications" setting should display the data that the applications used before uninstalling them from the iPhone or iPad. It is also assumed that the value remains constant until the user deletes another application, but this is not the case. Some users report increases in data value even when not removing other apps or even when cellular data is turned off, unless they turn off the phone. And some users have reset their data and even reset their phones, and unfortunately the data drain is still increasing.

The reason for data draining on iOS 13

The report claims that Apple's support page has known about the problem since last January, and that they have not answered customer questions about the defect. Customers have also contacted wireless carriers like Verizon to get answers to this mysterious consumption. The company assumed that this data was classified as an audio and video stream because it was using network ports typically associated with these types of services. AT&T also confirmed that it discovered this unusual data on its network as well, but it was not classified into a specific category.

The problem affected a variety of different iPhones, including the iPhone X, iPhone 11, and iPhone XR. The problem is not present in the iOS 12 release, but it is only limited to the current iOS 13 release.

Of some complaints, one of them says: “After two or three minutes my phone got hot. Then I reviewed the “Cellular” setting and saw an uninstalled app using 700-800MB. I closed settings reopened and found 900 mb. Then I was surprised minutes later that uninstalled apps used 1.2 GB data in less than 5 or 6 minutes ... I've reset cellular statistics many times since yesterday and haven't installed or uninstalled anything but the “uninstalled app” still drains data “.
Another says: “I just noticed this problem on my iPhone XR. As I received a notification from my carrier that I have used 90% of my 8 GB data and 11 days left in my billing period. My data usage is usually around 4GB per month so this was pretty weird. I noticed that the uninstalled system services and apps consume most of the data… It seems that this started when I installed iOS 13.3 ”and much more.

We are waiting for the iOS 13.4 update, but this issue is likely to be fixed in iOS 14 and is expected to be revealed at the WWDC 2020 conference, which will be held online due to the Coronavirus. It will be officially launched with the new iPhone devices that are rumored to include the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro series.

Now you have to keep an eye on your cell phone data and notice which apps are removed, are their value increasing or are they stable and let us know in the comments below.
