Since the release of the new iPhone 12 model, many of its new users have encountered SMS problems. Where users circulated complaints represented in not seeing messages sent from friends, and thus losing text messages in group conversations, as well as not receiving any notifications when text messages were received. What is the truth about this problem? Is it general for all iPhones? Is it Apple or telecom companies?

Message problem on iPhone 12

It is not clear that the problem is limited to iPhone 12 devices only, or it extends to other models, or whether it is a problem related to the update of iOS 14.1 and iOS 14.2, but the majority of complaints came from iPhone 12 owners.

Someone mentioned that the issue of not seeing SMS messages occurred with him when they were sent from Android devices, and he said:

I just upgraded to iPhone 12‌, and I was texting my kids group texting, and one of my kids is an Android user. When I met him afterwards, he asked me why I had not responded to two text messages he had sent in the chat. Then I checked my iPhone, and I didn't see any text messages from it in the group chat. Then he showed me his phone, and I found those messages sent to me.

Most of the people who lost SMS occurred in group chats, but there are complaints about some individual messages not being delivered, as one of them said:

I am facing the exact same problem. It seems that I only encounter group messaging issues when Android users have it. It has been pretty confusing in our messages for the past few days. None of our conversations make sense. My friends and I just tested with iMessage and didn't seem to have any issues with Apple users. Apple has reported the error. And I just noticed this after upgrading to iPhone 11 Pro running iOS 14.1 on Verizon's network. I deleted all the text message on my phone and restarted the iPhone, turned iMessage off and then back on. Hoping this helps.

Some individual complaints have been received stating that there is no notification of incoming messages. One of them said:

I was texting my mother last night, and she is using an iPhone XR, updated to iOS 14.2. And while messaging I stopped responding to my message. She sent her another one, and she said she had never seen the message. Then I stopped receiving any alerts at all. I had to open the Messages app and check to see if there was a message. Sure, the phone didn't feel anything to me, there was no badge, but there was a message. IOS 14 is a total mess.

Solve the messaging problem on iPhone 12

Turning off 5G doesn't seem to be a solution. But one of them succeeded in resetting network settings through Settings - General - Reset - Network Settings, but this did not work for the others.

This is likely to be a problem that telecom companies will have to address using custom updates, and it may be related to the operating system and Apple should fix it in an upcoming update.

It appears to be a problem with both iOS 14.1 and iOS 14.2 update, and it is too early to tell if the upcoming iOS 14.3 update has been affected.
