When Apple launched its 2012 version of its Maps app, the product was so bad that even Tim Cook, the company's CEO, actually apologized, encouraging consumers to temporarily use products from other companies. Google Maps won the lion’s share, then Waze, "an Israeli company affiliated with Google." Apple has worked hard in the last period to develop its own Maps application, and here it announces its redesigned version, get to know the most prominent things in it.

After 7 years, Apple announces its new version of Apple Maps

Apple says it has revamped the Apple Maps app and is catching up and may outperform its competitors. In a statement released last Thursday, the company announced that it had introduced the new and improved version of the redesigned Maps app, with faster and more accurate navigation and a comprehensive view of roads, buildings, parks, airports, malls and more. The following is a review of the most prominent things Apple has done in it:

Privacy

And that appears to be an important part of Apple's plan to beat Google, as Eddie Keough, senior vice president of Internet programs and services said:

“We set out to create the best private mapping app on the planet, which reflects how people explore the world today. It is an effort that we have invested deeply and asks us to reconstruct the map from the ground up to reimagine how maps enhance people's lives, from the commute to work, school or planning. For an important vacation, all with privacy at its core.

Among the main features promoted by Apple in the new Maps application:

◉ No login required, Apple Maps is not connected to Apple ID.

◉ Custom features, such as suggesting departure time for next appointment, are created with intelligence on the device.

◉ Data sent to Apple for app improvement is associated with random identifiers, so that users cannot be identified.

Maps go further, hiding a user's location on Apple's servers when searching for a location through a process called fuzzing. The date of what was searched for or the location of the user is not preserved. This is a smart privacy promotion feature. It is understood from this that there are absolutely no ads in Apple Maps.

Look Around or look around

Are you familiar with what is known as Google Street View? Or Google Street View? Apple Maps now has a similar feature called Look Around, which is a high-resolution XNUMXD visualization that provides street level imagery. This is very expensive, but not the great effort expended to provide it. Where Apple said it sent cars and planes covering millions of miles in the United States to create such images. So far, the Look Around feature covers a limited number of cities in the US, and will extend to Europe later this year.

Navigation information and indoor maps

Apple Maps isn't the only app that offers real-time transit information, but it is believed to be a lot of love. The new version includes detailed transportation schedules, direct departure times, arrival times, the current location of the bus or train en route, and system connections, according to Apple.

It also says that by simply opening the Maps application, users can see where they are, the locations of rest areas and even the open shops and restaurants. The new app is currently available in the United States, especially the San Francisco Bay Area, Washington DC, New York, and Los Angeles, and Miami was added this week.

There are some other features of the app that we will mention in detail in a later article.
