Although I am an Android fanatic, every year, when the Apple Developers Conference comes, I take off the hat of pride and admiration for the Android system and put it aside and follow what Apple is doing and announcing at its WWDC conference, and despite the iOS operating system has copied many features in Android and vice versa True, but this is what makes it more interesting, as both systems compete and continue to push each other further and the winner in the end is the user, and although many Android users see that the features provided by the new operating system iOS 14 are sponsored by Android. I admit that there are many features that Apple has provided to its users and that I would like to see them someday on Android, and during the following lines I will tell you about those features that I want on my Android phone.

Comprehensive research

Google had previously included the comprehensive search feature in the Google app on the Android operating system, but it quickly removed it in 2019, only here, the iOS 14 operating system is provided on Android with a comprehensive search bar, which can run applications and search for destinations. Connect, filter, through personal notes, open websites, answer questions about weather, maps, and more. However, Apple's personal assistant is excluded from that development, as it is a luxury way to do these functions with a few clicks.

Share subscriptions

There are many paid applications on the Google Store, and they do not allow more than one user to benefit from that subscription, so if the user has paid the subscription for an application, he cannot share the application with one of his friends or family members, without the other being paying the subscription.

The family feature provides sharing of applications among its members, and this feature is present in Apple and Google, but Apple has now added an option to which developers can provide subscription sharing, so that a single subscription can be shared by more than one user. It is noted that this feature is not available on all devices, but it is sufficient that it is available.

Developed widget

Google preceded Apple for years in providing widgets in the system, but we found at the iOS 14 conference that Apple boasted of providing it, the secret is due to the large customization capabilities of the widget in iOS 14, such as dragging one on top of the other to merge them together and then scrolling through this feature enables you to place several widgets in the same place You do not need to allocate places for them. For example, if you use an on-device music player, a streaming service, an audiobook app, and a podcast player, you can have them all in one widget from the audio tool.

This is in addition to the smart tools, which use artificial intelligence for the phone based on the uses of the device owner, its location and the current time, which is represented by the Smart Stack tool, which will provide the user with widgets automatically based on a specific time of the day, and that smart tool is similar to the At A Glance tool from Google, which is available in Pixel phones, which changes information dynamically based on what may be relevant to you at a specific time, however this feature of Apple is superior to that of Google, due to its attractiveness and flexibility of use, in addition to it is not limited to specific types of data .

In short, Google preceded Apple in providing widgets in the system, but Apple added it in a much more sophisticated way than the one in Android. Does Google improve its widget?

Advantages of picture in picture

This feature allows you to reduce the size of the application while it continues to work, so if you want to do something on the main screen while the YouTube application is running, the screen can be minimized while you continue to be able to watch the video, and during that, you will do what you want to do on the main screen of the iPhone.

Google added this feature earlier with the Oreo operating system, but it is still a version under development since The capabilities of the feature in Google are limited to dragging, expanding, and closing only. While the feature in Apple contains two additional features, click to enlarge, and resize the floating window, with the ease of minimizing the screen and restoring its previous size again, except that Apple has added and released it permanently and extensively as one of the features of the new operating system iOS 14.

Voice messages via Siri

Many users enjoy and prefer communicating using voice messages, due to the ease and speed of dealing with them, and Google supports this feature only through the WhatsApp application, but there are no Google messages, Telegram, or any other service.

In iOS 14, Apple added the feature to send a voice recording on its iMessage app via the Siri voice assistant, but the operation and listening of those messages is not yet certain, but I think Siri will get that feature soon, and perhaps before Google Assistant.

Group conversations

Participants in group conversations on Google find some difficulties in trying to catch up with the conversation, and to see who responded to whom.

The improvement that Apple made in iMessage is to show responses by clicking on a message, as they appear floating, similar to Slack, so there is no need to scroll the conversation up or down to follow the comments and responses.

Smart home support

Although both Apple and Google offer solutions to support the smart home, this service in Google is not as efficient, it is a set of shortcuts for part of the features of a number of home accessories, (not all), while others are missing in shape. mysterious.

Apple has corrected this problem and has effectively improved the service in the new iOS 14 operating system, in Apple Home, there is a slider at the top that contains elements that require a reaction from the user, (more like notifications), such as leaving one of the lights on, or locks left open . In addition to the addition of an interactive lighting feature, through which the user can adjust the brightness and color throughout the day, without the need to do so by scheduling, or independently.

The application offers suggestions for how to control the new device, through a number of elements. For example, if you add a balcony lamp, a window will appear suggesting to turn it off when leaving, and turn it on when coming, especially if it is linked to a nearby motion sensor.

Apple's car key

Apple made a demo of the BMW integrated car key, and it was one of the most exciting WWDC events.

The car key from Apple allows the user to open the car door and operate it, through the NFC chip built into the iPhone device, and it is really exciting that the key continues to work even if the phone's battery runs out for five hours.

The system also allows sharing the car key with a number of contacts, with the ability to control the powers of each of them.

Google has been working for some time to try to replace some official papers with a digital image that is in the phone, such as a driver's license or passport, which is a general trend of digitization. However, Apple's innovation of the car key, with all its features, is more attractive and exciting.

App clips

It is a feature that allows scanning of QR codes or NFC tags for the ability to pay. Google provided a similar feature years ago, but again and just like the widget that Apple introduced the feature for the first time more sophisticated than the previous ones, as it greatly improved it over the Google system where the user can ride the train or buy products by scanning the code, without the need to pay in the way. Traditional. There will be no application that you need to download and install on your phone to take advantage of this feature.

Location and privacy sharing

Preserving privacy has been a constant concern of both Android and iOS operating systems throughout their history, and the new version of iPhone OS 14 is no exception to the rule.

The location sharing feature is always related to the privacy factor. What distinguishes the new version in iOS 14 is the approximate location feature.

For apps that request to share location to locate nearby places and services, the system gives these apps an approximate, but not accurate, location in order to preserve privacy, which is great.

In addition, the system denies access to your contacts to third-party applications, but the contacts you select are shared.

Tracking applications

Sometimes a site tries to recognize your site for marketing and business purposes. Likewise, apps like Facebook work in the same way, especially when someone targets you so you're interested in a paid ad.

For websites, the Safari browser blocks any attempts to anonymously identify your site, and for applications (such as Facebook), developers will have to request your permission before they are allowed to know your location.

This extraordinary ability to respect privacy is not yet available in the Google browser or on the Android operating system yet.

App Store

Apple allows users to know the information that will be shared on an application that is downloaded from the Apple Store before the user actually downloads the application.

It's a very bold move from Apple, but it requires a lot of transparency and credibility on the part of the developers.

Point of view

Google and Apple are in constant competition to provide amazing features to users and try to overcome the other, and although I am one of the Android users who boasted a lot in the past period about the strength, features and popularity of Android unlike the iPhone, I envy iPhone users this time, thanks to the new operating system iOS 14.

What do you think of these features, and if you are an Android user then are you thinking about moving to the iPhone? Share your opinions with us in the comments.
