A question that arises recently about the iPhone and its system, is it safe from hacker attacks, intruders, and what is also called viruses?

We also know that when Apple created the iPhone, it tried to have its system completely protected against any attack or hacking, and this system was and is still centered around Apple itself in terms of support, update and software download, and this is represented in iTunes and the Apple Store only. But iPhone users were not convinced of this only source, so they tried to find another outlet, an alternative to the Apple Store, to find their way from other service programs not provided by Apple, and the beginning was with Cydia, which is similar in its work to the Apple Store. It was necessary to use the jailbreak method to insert Cydia into the iPhone, and this method was disavowed by Apple and warned that the jailbreak is nothing but a violation of the laws approved by Apple and that the device loses the warranty provided by it and does not bear any responsibility for what may happen to the device and its contents. Of course, the majority of iPhone users in the world use the jailbreak and did not care what Apple says.

So is it dangerous to jailbreak? We say no, but be careful after the jailbreak, and this is something that many of us do not notice. Cydia contains thousands of service programs that the weak of souls may exploit to enter the devices of others to spy or tamper with and sabotage. These programs are not monitored by anyone but the iPhone community itself.

Several days ago, the iPhone devices in the world were hacked, including my device, and the hack was limited and did not affect the devices except by placing an image that appears upon connection, or the arrival of a text message warning the user that a device has been hacked. The goal of the person who did the hack was to alert iPhone users that their devices are not safe from hacking or spying and I think this alert was good and thanks for it. Simply if this virus infected you, do a restore for your device.

If the Apple device and its system are locked, then what is the vulnerability or vulnerability that those exploited to access our devices and try to tamper with it?
Many of us use the OpenSSH program, which is installed from Cydia, which is the link that allows us to enter deep into the iPhone system via the computer via Wi-Fi for the purpose of browsing files, modifying them or deleting them. Several programs are used for this purpose, including WinScp and Putty, and it is not possible to enter I crossed those programs except by putting the device's password and the so-called root and the password is standardized in all iPhones, which are alpine and overlooked a lot about changing it, and this is the loophole that the hackers exploited to produce the first iPhone virus. And this virus can enter your phone if it is on the same Wi-Fi network and from a distance.

The solution to be safe is to change this password in order to protect our devices in the event that OpenSSH is installed and running, thus closing the gap that can be accessed through, there are several ways to change the password either through the computer or from the iPhone directly, and I will explain the iPhone method directly because it is easier and here is the way for you. :

* First, you must download a program: MobileTerminal, which is present in Cydia, and this program allows you to enter the depth of the system and deal with it with written orders.
* Secondly, we open MobileTerminal and then follow the following as shown in the image:

  1. The device name will appear. Type passwd, not password
  2. The old password is alpine. The characters will not appear when typing
  3. We write the new password and also the letters will not appear.
  4. Retype the new password
  5. Enter login root to access the root
  6. We write the old password alpine
  7. The device name will appear, type passwd
  8. We write the new password and the characters will not appear when typing.
  9. We re-type the new password and also the letters will not appear when typing.
  10. Exit the terminal and restart the machine, and the job is done.

Notes :

  • The method described above works only on Freemore 3.0 and above.
  • If you do not jailbreak your device, you are safe and do not need to change the password.
  • If you jailbreak your phone and do not install the OpenSSH program, you will not need to change the password unless you wish to do so as a precaution.
